Magic Colombia is a 1.850 KMS trip, where we start riding from the east range plains at 2640 meters above sea level located south east of Colombia through the Tatacoa desert, San Agustins Archeological Park in the Andes, passing through the Moorland in Purace National Park and the colonial, white city of Popayan. Passing through the hot and fertile valley of the Cauca river, visiting a native Indian reserve, reaching the lush coffee zone were nature explodes in all its splendor, we can relax in the hot springs of the volcano of the “Nevado del Ruiz” and ride down the hillsides through hundreds of curves to the city of Honda located at sea level at the river bank of the Magdalena river. Our last ride will be uphill through roads across the mountains ending in Bogota.
Itinerary
Day 1 Bogota - Girardot - 150
Day 1 / Bogota – Girardot
Shuttle from hotel to a place outside Bogota. Staff and crew presentation, documentation inspection and route talk. Departure to Girardot. Climate will change from the Cold Bogota to a hot 38 degrees Celsius in Girardot. 5 hour ride with a 90% of asphalt.
Day 2 Tatacoa Desert - 200
Day 2 / Girardot – La Tatacoa Desert
A joyful ride through the Magdalena river Valley and its fertile lands filled with rice and cotton plantations; near our destination we will ride 40 KMS through dirt roads, lonely, beautiful, a great experience for every rider, we will pass through the desert and reach Villa Vieja were we can enjoy a refreshing swim in a pool.
Day 3 Tatacoa Desert - San Agustín - 190
Day 3 / La Tatacoa Desert – San Augustin’s Archeological Park
We will have the unique experience to cross the Magdalena River in a small canoe departing early in the morning, in our way trees will make a sealing over the road, making riding through on a Royal Enfiel Classic 500 a real pleasure. We will go up to the Colombian Flowerbed to the origin of the Colombian mountain range and its rivers and spend the night in San Agustin, place of the archeological park a world heritage site (UNESCO).
Day 4 San Agustín - Popayán - 210
Day 4 / San Agustin – Popayan
A less travelled road enjoyable by motorcycle that passes through Purace Natural park, with volcanoes (11) and the “Pan de Azucar” at 5000 meters above sea level, Purace at 4780 meters above sea level and the Coconuco at 4600 meters above sea level. Long off road paths with abundant highland vegetation. In the afternoon we will reach the Colombian colonial white city of Popayan.
Day 5 Popayán - Buga - 180
Day 5 / Popayan – Buga
After a short walk through the city, the road will lead us to the warm valley of the Cauca River, towards Silvia, a picturesque and representative South American Andes Indian tribe. WE continue our ride through the valley filled with crops and plantations till we reach the Colonial and religious city of Buga.
Day 6 Buga - Salento - 150
Day 6 / Buga – Salento
After crossing Cauca River in an old wide boat, we go through rustic roads in the coffee growing area. The warm valley and the sugar cane plantations open up to a scenery of hills and abundant vegetation of coffee and plantains. Towns are filled with color and flavor.
Day 7 Salento - Salento - 0
Day 7 Resting day at Salento
During this day riders will choose from different activities (Enjoys the coffee park, tour on Willis Jeep, visiting Cocora park, a butterfly farm, Muleteer museum or stay and do craft shopping in Salento town).
Day 8 Salento - Manizales - 210
Day 8 Salento – Manizales
On this day, we will go through typical little towns of the coffee region: with their houses made of “bareque” and “guadua” filled with colors that grant them a romantic atmosphere filled of Colombian past. The route will lead us to the central mountain range paths to Manizales, on its suburbs we will finish our day enjoying a nice rest on the hot springs of Ruiz volcano.
Day 9 Manizales - Honda - 220
Day 9 Manizales – Honda
We will go up a rustic off road path to the base of Ruiz Volcano at 4000 meters above sea level, escorted by high mountain volcanic scenery. After a splendid route filled with curves we will descend to old and hot colonial Honda town at the Magdalena river bank.
